Kampala, Uganda: MTN’s Home & Away call tariffs will from today February 1, 2009 take up a new pricing plan as the telecom giant pushes to offer a more desired flexibility of pricing.
Customers on Home & Away will pay the local rates of the partner networks in the different country of destination in East Africa. This is contrary to the previous pricing plan where customers kept the MTN rates wherever they traveled in East Africa.
“Customers will be charged the visited network’s tariff but will not be subject to any local promotions in the visited country,” said the company’s Public Relations Officer, Sheila Kangwagye.
Customers will however still load the airtime of the partner networks depending on the country visited. MTN in Rwanda, Safaricom in Kenya and Vodacom in Tanzania are the partners of MTN Uganda in the respective countries.
The MTN Home and Away package that was established two years ago comes with many benefits including the ability of the customer to retain his/her number, free incoming calls and seamless activation.
The Home & Away innovation was inspired by the need to solve the challenge of limited distribution of airtime vouchers in the visited countries which then required people to carry vouchers wherever they traveled in East Africa, request for vouchers or “Me2U” from the people back home.
So customers from partner networks can load MTN airtime using *148*2*access number# while MTN customers within the partner countries can load using *148*1* Safaricom access number#, *148*3* Vodacom access number# or *148*7*Vodacom access number#
The service is one of the countless innovative products that MTN has over the years crafted which have not only brought renewed customer interest and satisfaction but has also revolutionised the market.
