Kampala, Uganda: Over 100 companies have entered approximately 200 teams in the corporate challenge race category in the upcoming MTN Kampala Marathon slated for Sunday November 22nd starting and finishing at Kololo Airstrip; This was revealed by the marathon organizers today.
With a total of 16 teams, DFCU Bank leads the group with the largest number of entries, six more than the next two big entrants UMEME and Uganda Communication Commission. Hima Cement registered eight teams while Tullow Oil and Rift Valley Railways entered six teams each.
MTN Public Relations Officer, Sheila Kangwagye said, “Having so many corporates and businesses entering the Marathon this year only serves to set the stage for exciting, fun and friendly competition amongst them. Despite the anticipated competition, we should not forget that the marathon is a charity event as well and so the huge number of corporate entries means more proceeds to the less privileged and vulnerable in society. For this reason we would like to thank all those who’ve registered for the marathon this year.”
In the individual stakes, Stanbic Bank ranked highest having registered 325 runners. This is in addition to the five teams the bank has entered in the corporate challenge. The Ministry of Education and Sports which has registered 223 individual runners is a close second followed by Samona at 164, New Vision at 149 and the Infection Disease Institute at 127. Other corporate companies that have entered big numbers of individuals include Coca Cola, National Social Security Fund, National Water and Sewerage Corporation, Uganda Revenue Authority and the Uganda Parliament.
