MTN Surprises Loyal customers with Tickets to the World Cup

Release date:4/29/2010

Kampala, Uganda: MTN Uganda, the Official Telecom sponsors of the 2010 FIFA World CupTM, today surprised eight loyal customers with an all expenses paid trip to the World Cup Finals in South Africa this July.

Announcing the surprise package to the astonished lucky customers during a luncheon at the Serena Kampala Hotel, MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer Isaac Nsereko said, “This invitation to the World Cup is a token of our appreciation for the support of all our customers. Being the first African Company to Sponsor the World Cup is a major milestone for MTN. This would not have been possible without our over 120 million customers in Africa and the Middle East, of which nearly 6 million are in Uganda.”

The eight lucky patrons were randomly selected from amongst MTN’s most loyal customers, some of whom have been with the network from inception in 1998. The selection also considered how long they have been on the network and the amounts spent on airtime. One customer was found to spend close to UGX 9 million a month on airtime. Four of the eight winners attended the luncheon and were overwhelmed with joy.

Kino kimpitiridde kko, Banange! - Gosh, this has overwhelmed me!" exclaimed Lawrence Sekayi Mukasa, of Kampala.

Three other customers, dumbstruck by the surprise announcement, took a few minutes to recover before congratulating each other profusely. Isaac Sendiwala, who was accompanied by his son Farhat Mubiru, Stephen Kalanzi Katabazi, and Scovia Kagambo, were thrilled at the news.

Other winners include James Nyakuni, Nathanson Marshall, Freddie Ruhindi, and Halai Kartick.

MTN Chief Marketing Officer, Isaac Nsereko handed the lucky customers their World Cup kits and a travelling bag each. They will fly to South Africa and watch the highly billed World Cup Quarter Final Game slated for July 3rd. Their travel, accommodation, meals and hospitality costs, including shopping, will be met by MTN.

The loyal customers will be accompanied by Uganda Cranes Captain Ibrahim Sekajja, and will also join six earlier winners who are also going to watch the World Cup courtesy of MTN in the Fever 2010 promotion last year. One lucky MTN user also received a VISA card with $10,000 credit.
