Kampala, Uganda: MTN and MultiChoice Uganda today announced the introduction of a more convenient payment option for DStv service using MTN Mobile Money.
Announcing the innovation, MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer Isaac Nsereko said the innovation extends the convenience of MTN Mobile Money’s person-to-person transfer function to payment for such vital services as TV.
“Since launch, MTN Mobile Money has been used to transfer money from one person to another. With over 1 million registered users, 1,500 agents across Uganda and nearly UGX 800 billion transferred between individuals, to say the service has been successful would be an understatement. Today, we witness history as the convenience of MTN Mobile Money extends to the Person to Business Payment arena. We are delighted to have Multichoice as our first partner among what is certainly going to be a growing list of business entities using MTN Mobile Money,” he said.
The service is available to all MTN Mobile Money registered customers.
Explaining how the service works, Nsereko said that DStv subscribers would simply have to have an MTN Mobile Money account with sufficient funds. Subscribers will go to their MTN Mobile Money Menu, select ‘Pay Bill’, followed by DStv, where they would be required to enter their DStv Smart Card Number and enter the amount they are paying for.
Commenting on the innovation, Multichoice Uganda Managing Director, Charles Hamya said, “MTN Mobile money brings unprecedented convenience to our customers. Payment is so simple and yet extremely useful because it will cut out the need for our subscribers to leave home to make their payments. The MTN Mobile Money reconnection service is a real time solution, so customers will no longer have to call our call centre.” Hamya said.
He explained that as a pioneer of Pay-TV in Africa, Multichoice was committed to not only ensuring that DStv subscribers have access to the finest quality premium content, but also the most convenient and accessible customer services available.
MultiChoice Africa has continued to deliver cutting-edge technology and unrivalled premium content focused on building an innovative and sustainable business that offers reliable service making it Africa’s leading entertainment platform.
“Our commitment remains to ensure that DStv subscribers have access to the finest quality premium content; and local and international channels on carefully selected bouquets, designed to meet the viewing needs of the whole family,” Hamya said.
