Kampala, Uganda: A Mukono plumber, Mr. Yusuf Swale Kamara (photo: left, with his father hailing the house key) is the winner of house number 5 in the ongoing MTN Goal of Goals promotion which so far has given out four furnished apartments.
Seven houses are still on offer in the promotion which is scheduled to close in June just before the kick off of the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Mr. Kamara is the second winner from the Central region after Amon Turyasingura, a resident of Nateete, a Kampala suburb.
The Eastern region too has so far had two winners. Geoffrey Matege and Teddy Nabukwasi the second and third house winners both from the Eastern region. Hamza Yusuf the fourth house winner is from the West-Nile region.
Apart from the houses other prizes on offer include LG refrigerators, Sony DVD home theatre systems and Sony 32” Plasma screen TV sets all courtesy of the MTN the official mobile telephone services provider for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
MTN Head of Mobile Money and Public Access, Richard Mwami said MTN was on track in keeping the promise to make the 2010 FIFA World Cup the most memorable for the people of Uganda and all the markets that it operates in.
“The tournament is truly a once in a life time occurrence and equally true is winning a fully furnished house after spending a minimum of UGX 2,000 worth of MTN airtime. So far, we have five ordinary Ugandans whose lives have been changed dramatically after participating in this promotion” Mwami said.
Upon receiving the keys to his apartment, Yusuf could hardly believe his luck as he shook his head in utter disbelief. “I have had several dreams in my life, but never one about winning a house. This is truly a special moment for me and my family and I sincerely thank MTN for making it possible” he said.
Among the winners of the other prizes were, Scovia Latigi and Kira Faiso, who will each take a Sony DVD home theater system and an LG refrigerator respectively.
The results of the final winners are verified and certified by renowned accounting and auditing firm, Ernst & Young.
Last year, MTN Uganda rewarded six winners with all expenses paid trips to South Africa and tickets to watch the World Cup in June. One lucky customer also received a VISA card with $10,000 credit.
