Kampala, Uganda: PROUD sponsors of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, MTN Uganda today handed over the first of twelve houses to be given away, to one lucky winner, Amon Turyasingura, in the ongoing Goal of Goals promotion.
Speaking after handing over the house to Amon and his father, with whom he arrived to collect his prize, MTN CEO Themba Khumalo said the telecommunication company was proud to bring the World Cup experience to Africa and to everyone in Uganda. “As the official global sponsor of the world’s biggest sporting event, MTN intends to make Africa and especially Uganda live to remember the 2010 FIFA World Cup, as it is truly a landmark occasion for Africa to host for the very first time and most likely in our lifetime this revered tournament. The houses and other prizes that we are giving away, we hope are a tribute that will live on beyond June 2010.”
The first house was won by Amon Turyasingura, a 23 year old resident of Nateete, a Kampala suburb. The house was won in a lucky draw of the over 2 million MTN customers currently participating in the promotion. MTN customers presently stand at 5.5 million. The results of the final winners are verified and certified by renowned accounting and auditing firm, Ernst & Young.
“That I had just decided to get a new MTN line after losing the first one in Sudan some months ago is an indication that this house was definitely mine.” The visibly elated Amon said. “All I have is praise for MTN and I am happy that because of them, my family is going to enjoy the World Cup in my new house!” he added.
Other lucky winners included Betty Nantaba from Kawempe who won an Sony Flat Screen TV, Ronald Kayemba and Lubega Geoffrey who each won Sony Home Theater Systems, while two other winners walked away with LG refrigerators.
The draw is announced live every Sunday on NTV and UBC TV at 7.30pm.
Last year, MTN Uganda rewarded six winners with all expenses paid trips to South Africa and tickets to watch the World Cup in June. One lucky customer also won a VISA card with $10,000 credit to spend.
