MTN Goal of Goals ends in-style as the final '12th' house is given away

Release date:5/21/2010

Kampala, Uganda: Curtains came down in style for the MTN Goal of Goals promotion as the final house was handed over to an excited and ecstatic Makerere University student, Mary Magdalene Amongin, in the presence of all the eleven previous winners in a ceremony that set the mood for the forthcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup where MTN is the official mobile telephone operator. Currently in the middle of her exams, Amongin was in disbelief when she received the highly coveted call from MTN Uganda.
“I can’t believe it, I’m still in shock! I can’t wait to finish my exams so I can go and chill in my new place. I’m so excited, thank you MTN!”
The promotion, which has been ongoing for the past twelve weeks, was premised on the need to make the 2010 World Cup a memorable experience that would leave a lasting impression in the minds of millions of football fans in Uganda and across all the territories where the MTN Group operates.  As expected, the promotion climaxed 19 days before the kick off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, on June 11.
And indeed it did not disappoint as 12 ordinary Ugandans have had their lives transformed some from small one roomed places to becoming landlords of furnished apartments at the National Housing Estate in Namungoona, a Kampala Suburb, after using a minimum of only UGX 2,000 on airtime a week.
Other participants and lucky MTN customers won exciting prizes which included LG refrigerators, Sony 32” plasma screen TV sets and Sony DVD home theatre systems which were specifically selected to enhance the lives of the winners during the world cup period.
MTN Chairman, Mr. Charles Mbire, was on hand to present the keys to Ms. Amongin. “With 21 days to go until the World Cup, MTN Uganda is gearing up to set the stage for our customers and all soccer loving fans, some by giving them an experience in their very own homes, like Mary here and others through the fan park that we are setting up at Nakivubo with our partners Coca Cola.”
He added that through the promotion, MTN had kept its promise of bringing the World Cup experience to every household in Uganda and to millions of people from all walks of life who look up to the tournament for inspiration. “Apart from being a historical moment which marks the first time that the FIFA World Cup is played on African soil, it is a moment to celebrate togetherness irrespective of race, color or creed.”
He thanked MTN customers for responding positively to the promotion and had special recognition for the 60 winners of houses and other prizes.
The winners include Mr. Amon Turyasungira, who previously resided at Natete before moving into his apartment, Mr. Geoffrey Matege, Ms. Teddy Nabukwasi both from the East, Mr. Hamza Yusuf from West Nile, Mr. Kamara Swale Yusuf a resident of Mukono, Ms. Joyce Nalukambi Kasozi, Mr. Savier Kasamba, Mr. Haruna Kassim, Mr. Charles Mugabo, Mr. Ibrahim Kyamanywa and Ms. Amongin.
The promotion was crowned with a house party that included a performance from Eagles’ Production renowned musician Haruna Mubiru and a raffle draw for the media that have been integral to the success of the promotion.
Congratulations to all the winners and have a fantastic world cup experience with MTN.
