MTN and Total Uganda sign Enhanced Distribution Partnership

Release date:5/27/2010

Kampala, Uganda: MTN and Total Uganda today signed an enhanced partnership that placed the MTN range of products and services in more than 129 Total stations countrywide.

Total Uganda Managing Director Mamadou Ngom, said the partnership would take advantage of the fuel company's extended network following last year's acquisition of Caltex.

"We decided to extend our partnership with MTN to fine-tune our synergies. Our objective is to offer more services to our customers at the Bonjour shops. We will have a streamlined relationship which will be fruitful to all our customers by providing an all-in-one solution," he said.

Total is one of Uganda’s leading oil companies with over 20% market share. The firm last year expanded operations with a landmark acquisition that increased its coverage to 129 stations countrywide, and now employs more than 2,000 people across its operations.

MTN, Uganda’s biggest telecommunications firm, has registered close to 6 million subscribers on its network.

MTN Chief Executive Officer Themba Khumalo said the partnership with Total was structured for the convenience of the customers of both companies.

“MTN Uganda is happy to work with Total in fuelling the easy access of airtime and other products in our portfolio. The Total forecourts are highly popular with a large segment of our customers, and offer the convenience that we wish them to enjoy while accessing our products,” he said.

He added that MTN Uganda would continue to expand its distribution footprint across the country using both traditional and non-traditional channels. The products will initially include airtime cards and electronic vouchers, but will later be expanded. "This is a total solution for our customers," he said.
