MTN Kampala Marathon
It is that time of the year again, when MTN joins hands with partners to rally marathon enthusiasts from varied backgrounds, to run for a noble cause in the MTN Kampala Marathon. The marathon takes place takes on Sunday, 20 November 2016, starting at the Kololo Independence Grounds, through Kampala city and returns to the same venue. Now in its 13th edition, the MTN Kampala Marathon has provided a platform for individuals and representatives from various organisations to engage in the healthy exercise of running but also to contribute to a good cause. The MTN Kampala Marathon is made possible by MTN Uganda together with partners Huawei, New Vision, Stanbic Bank and Rwenzori Mineral water. The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) is our technical partner in organising the event.
MTN Uganda and our partners are committed to enhancing development in the communities in which we do business, not just by providing universal access to communication, but also through various corporate social responsibility initiatives that MTN operationalises through the MTN Foundation.
The MTN Kampala Marathon has over the years enabled us to support several initiatives like the Mama Bag appeal for expectant mothers in northern Uganda, Water projects in Amuria, Kiryandongo and Nakapiripit districts, among others. Since the inception of the MTN Kampala Marathon, over 200 000 entrants have participated and raised in excess of UShs1.8 billion for various charitable causes across Uganda.

MTN sponsors the annual Chairman's Cup, hosted and held at the Kampala Club, which brings together captains of industry and prominent government officials. The Chairman’s Cup involves all nine sports disciplines played at the club.
MTN has also been the official sponsor of the MTN Heathens rugby team and we are proud of our outstanding partnership which has stretched over a period of 16 years.
Our longstanding relationship has seen the growth of the MTN Heathens into a dominant rugby team in Uganda over the years. The team have won a multitude of trophies and continue to supply the bulk of the national team players: Uganda Rugby Cranes.

The MTN Monthly Mug Tournament is a golf tournament hosted at the Uganda Golf Club that pits club members against each other for the coveted Golf Mugs. The tournament hosts a maximum of 140 participants every month and offers Uganda Golf Club members an opportunity to compete on both an amateur and professional level.
MTN is passionate about the development of athletics in Uganda. Since 2004, together with Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF), we sponsor various athletics championships every year that form part of the qualification process for international athlete meets such as The World Championships and the Olympics.
As a result, we have seen talent develop from Uganda with the likes of Dorcus Inzikuru (Steeple Chase World Champion), Boniface Kiprop and Stephen Kiprotich, who won gold medals at both the London 2012 Olympics and Moscow 2013 World Championships.
The MTN Kampala International Marathon is Uganda’s biggest sporting event, which has been held every year since 2004. Elite athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda come together to compete for a cash prize.
