MoMo Advance is a service offered to qualifying MTN Mobile Money customers to complete their
transactions when they have insufficient funds in their MTN Mobile Money wallet.
The service is available to customers that have been on MTN Mobile Money for a minimum period of 6
months and passed credit scoring which is based on their usage of MTN Mobile Money and other MTN
services.

No, you only need to opt-in once after reading and accepting the terms and conditions. The MoMo
Advance service will be available until you opt-out of the service.

No, you will be provided with the choice on whether you want to use the MoMo Advance and will need
to confirm with you the MoMo pin before the transaction is finalized.
Yes. You can choose to opt-out at any time. You will need to ensure that any outstanding balances are
settled before you opt-out. To opt-out, a customer can dial *165*5*3#, then select Option 4 to opt-out.
Only one MoMo Advance can be opened on an MTN Mobile Money number and the limit will be
determined based on your day-to-day usage on your Mobile Money Account.
Dial *165*5*3# and Select option 5 for Info. Each time you transact using MoMo Advance, you will
receive a notification with the outstanding MoMo Advance amount.
You can use it as many times as needed within the allocated MoMo Advance limit.
You are able to use a MoMo Advance for Send Money, MoMo Pay, Buy Goods and Services, Pay bills,
Airtime and Bundle Purchases.
All you need to do is transact normally on MTN Mobile Money and if you have insufficient funds, MoMo
The advance will cover the difference if it is within your limit.
Continue using MTN and MTN Mobile Money services frequently and clear your MoMo Advance on time
by toping up your MTN Mobile Money account.
When you default on paying your MoMo Advance, your credit score reduces and so does your available
MoMo Advance Limit.
No, you cannot withdraw funds from MoMo Advance.
Each time you access an amount on your MoMo Advance you will be charged an access fee of 2.75% of
the transaction amount. If there is an outstanding balance on the MoMo Advance you will be charged a
daily interest of 0.5%. The daily interest will be charged at the end of each day that the MoMo Advance
has an outstanding balance. No interest will be charged if the outstanding balance is settled.
Normal MTN Mobile Money transaction charges apply for the transaction.
Any funds received or deposited in your MTN Mobile Money account will automatically be used to clear
your outstanding MoMo Advance, interest and fees.
You will not have access to your MoMo Advance limit if you do not make any deposits to your MoMo
Advance for a period of 45 days.

MoMo Advance is a type of loan product, however the difference is that you are able to overdraw on
your MTN Mobile Money wallet to complete transactions when you have insufficient funds and the
outstanding balance is settled once you deposit into your MTN Mobile Money.
Yes, a customer can access MoMo advance as long as they qualify for MoMo Advance and are still within
the stipulated loan repayment period for their MoKash Loan.

MTN Pay Mpola Mpola
The MTN Pay Mpola Mpola is a new digital product which allows MTN customers to purchase data-capable devices bundled with data with a manageable initial payment. The balance is to be paid in multiple monthly instalments thereafter.
A section of the existing MTN customers are eligible for this service. Eligibility is guided by a customer’s age on the network, as well as their usage of MTN services over an extended period.
For the start, only one device (branded MTN Kabode) is available for purchase through the MTN Pay Mpola Mpola Service.
Yes, the devices under MTN Pay Mpola Mpola will be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
No, the devices are not insured.
After checking eligibility through *165*5#, the customer will be required to visit an MTN Service Centre, with the required initial deposit plus their original national ID, to get the Smartphone.
In the unlikely event that the received device is defective, please return it within 48 hours to the MTN Service Centre.

The device payment program is an instalment agreement in which you can get a Smartphone from MTN with a minimal initial instalment and subsequent manageable instalment payments. To that end, MTN ought to take due diligence confirming the customers’ financial discipline and resilience before extending the facility.
Once you have been approved to pay for a phone, over time you can finance a new phone and let someone else use it. You must have paid for at least one phone before being considered for this option.
Yes. Devices bought with device payments are covered by an MTN return policy and come with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty
Savings & Loans
MoKash is a service available for MTN Mobile Money customers that provides customers the ability to save using MTN Mobile Money and to take loans on a short term basis.
Dial *165*5# and select MoKash to get started.
A customer can save and earn interest or can get a short term loan with MoKash.
- Upon activation of MoKash a customer should save by moving money from their Mobile Money account to their MoKash account.
- To save with MoKash dial *165*5# select MoKash, then Savings then Deposit. A customer can save as low as UGX50.
- Money saved on MoKash earns interest.

- To access a MoKash loan a customer should have first saved with MoKash. Customers can save as low as UGX 50.
- You can access a loan between UGX 3,000 and up to UGX 1,000,000 depending on your loan limit with a 9% facilitation fee.
- Loan repayment period is 30 days
- If loan in not paid within the 30 day period, customer will extend the outstanding loan for another 30 days at a fee of 9%
- Loan is deposited directly to the customers MTN Mobile Money account.
- To get a loan dial *165*5#, select MoKash, then Loans and follow the steps. Remember to check your Loan Limit.
- The customer is assigned a loan limit immediately upon activation of MoKash.
- A customer loan limit is determined by their utilization of MTN services including MTN Voice, MTN Mobile Money and MTN Data.
- Regularly saving with MoKash as well as timely repayment of loans will positively impact a customers’ loan limit.

All MoKash transactions are free. Depositing or withdrawing from your Savings account, checking loan limit, repaying a loan are all free transactions.

MTN Open API
The MTN Open API is an initiative in which MTN has exposed to the public API end points for accessing MTN Mobile Money services. To access the exposed API endpoints, users simply sign up on the online portal at https://momodeveloper.mtn.com/
The Open API will ease the process of integrating to MTN Mobile Money and also enhance value for innovators who want to use Mobile Money as a payment solution in their products and services. How is this achieved?
Exposing the API end points for Mobile Money to the public will make it easy for any innovator to consider monetizing their service with MTN Mobile Money
Users don’t have to visit MTN offices to initiate integration with Mobile Money. They can initiate and complete integration via the MTN Open API online portal
The Open API provides a sandbox environment for innovators to experiment concepts thus stimulating innovation
Once development of the service is completed and testing is done; integration to go live via the open API takes approximately 10 days as opposed to over 2 months previously experienced.
The exposed API endpoints have been packaged to enable the partner/developer to build any or all the following products.
- Collections – For receiving payments for Good and Services
- Disbursements – Enabling a partner to make payments/disbursements to a list of specified recipients.
- Remittances: This enables the customer/partner to transfer and receive money across borders.
- MOMO Widget: a user can download the widget and enable mobile Money payments off an E-commerce site

The MTN Open API portal and endpoints are open to both local and international innovators to use as long as they comply with the terms and conditions of using the API which include among others compliance to regulatory requirements and policies including but not limited to ‘Know Your Customer (KYC), AML Act among others.
The Open API enables you to develop and commercialize services that are consumable within a specific market/country. Currently the Open API is only available in Uganda. In the near future, we intend to extend the scope of the Open API to other MTN operations.
Yes. Services created to be accessed via Web, App and USSD channels can consume the Open API.

MoMocard
The MTN MoMocard is a virtual card available to MTN customers that enables them to perform online transactions with funds from their MTN MoMo wallet.
MTN has partnered with Mastercard to offer this service.
Getting the MTN MoMocard is very easy. Simply dial *165*70# and select option 1 to create an MTN MoMocard. You will be prompted to enter your MTN MoMo PIN and once you enter your PIN the MTN MoMocard number along with the CVV numbers will be sent to your phone via text.
Each MTN MoMocard you create will cost you UGX 1,000.
An MTN MoMocard has a maximum value of UGX 3,000,000 and is valid for 30 days.
MTN MoMocard is available to all MTN MoMo customers. Dial *165# to activate your MTN MoMo account.
With the MTN MoMocard you can pay for goods and services online. Some of these include online shopping, accommodation, airline travel, ebooks. Software and apps.
The MTN MoMocard can be used on any online service that accepts payment through Mastercard.
You can create only 1 card at a time. When that card expires or is depleted you can then create another.
Simply dial *165*70# and select option 2. You will be prompted to enter your MTN MoMo PIN and thereafter the MTN MoMocard details will be displayed.
You can cancel your MTN MoMocard. Simply dial *165*70# and select option 3 to cancel your card. You will be prompted to enter your MTN MoMo PIN to confirm this request.
No you can not withdraw cash using the MTN MoMocard. It can only be used to make online payments.
Donations
Yes. You can only make payments to Multiplex when registered on MTN Mobile Money.
Dial *165#, select ‘3’ for ‘Pay Bill’, then 3 again to select ‘Multiplex’ and proceed to enter your car registration number and amount due.
No. One does not need an account with Multiplex. All you need is a car registration number.
Your registration number is the number on your car number plate.
It doesn’t matter whether capital or small letters. All you have to ensure is entering the right registration number.
You can pay a minimum of UShs 1 000 to Multiplex.
No. You do not need to pay for a physical parking ticket. Once you conclude your payment through MTN Mobile Money, Multiplex will receive and acknowledge the payment in their system.
Currently you can only pay your outstanding or overdue Multiplex bill using MTN Mobile Money. You cannot pre-pay e.g. you cannot pay for monthly parking.
Yes. You can pay using another person’s number provided you enter your car registration number.
No. However, you will receive an SMS from MTN and Multiplex confirming payment.
In case you made a wrong payment, kindly visit any Multiplex office for assistance.
MoMoPay
A customer is charged when they send Mobile Money while paying for goods and services using MoMoPay is free for the customer.
All merchant premises will have a 6 digit merchant code displayed prominently for the customer to see. To pay for services a customer dials *165*3# and then enters the merchant code, the amount to pay and the Mobile Money PIN. This transaction is free for the customer.
To view the Merchant Code, the merchant should dial *165*3# and select option 8 to View ID.
MoMoPay payments are received immediately. Both the customer and the merchant are immediately notified via SMS with confirmation of the transaction.
You can access these funds to pay your supplier through MoMoPay. You can pay salaries of your employees. You can also transfer these funds to your bank account.
To get the funds as physical cash, just visit a Mobile Money agent or an ATM.
MoMoPay is a secure service and the transactions are carried out using your MTN Mobile Money PIN. Remember to always keep your PIN safe.
If you receive a payment that is meant for a different merchant or the customer enters a wrong amount when paying you, then you have to dial *165*3#, select Reverse Transaction and follow the prompts. The merchant will need the Transaction ID to complete the reversal.
For every received payment the merchant will be charged 1% of the value of the payment for the Individual Merchant and 2% for the Business Merchant. Customers use MoMoPay for free.
To sell airtime a merchant should dial *165*3# and select Pay for Customer then follow the steps.
Mobile Money
A. MTN Mobile Money is an electronic mobile service that lets users store, send and receive money on their phones. It is a convenient alternative to bank accounts and can be used on basic phones as well as smartphones.
A. If you are an MTN customer dial *165# to get started. You will need to create a 5 digit PIN.
If you are not fully registered, please visit the nearest MTN service centre with ID to be registered on MTN Mobile Money.

You can also send money to Safaricom MPesa customers in Kenya and MTN Rwanda customers.
A. Yes. You can use MTN Mobile money even if you have no airtime on your phone. The fees are deducted from your Mobile Money account.
A. No. You will not receive any interest on the money you have in your MTN Mobile Money account. To receive interest you have to activate a MoKash account and save your money in that account.
A. Your money is safe since every transaction requires your PIN before completion. Remember to keep your PIN a secret and change it regularly or if you think someone else has seen it.

At all DFCU Bank ATMs countrywide. The service will however also be introduced with other bank ATMs in due course.
No. You have 24-hour access to withdraw your MTN Mobile Money from any Crane bank ATM across the country.
No. You will kindly follow normal waiting procedure when you find other users already lined up to use the ATM machine. You are advised to only start the transaction of receiving a TIN code from your phone when you are next in line to access the ATM machine. The TIN expires after 10 minutes.
A TIN will be received as an SMS message. Once generated by a user, the TIN code is only valid for 10 minutes. One should therefore be close to an ATM before generating the code.
Yes. You can give another person the TIN to withdraw money from the ATM machine on your behalf. However, they must be sure to be at the ATM within less than 10 minutes since the TIN code will expire. The person withdrawing on your behalf should also remember to enter your MTN Mobile Number at the ATM when prompted.
No. The PIN is only required when generating the TIN code on the phone. At the ATM machine, only the TIN and MTN Mobile number of the phone which generated it, is required.
No. The MTN Mobile Money system will automatically charge you for the withdrawal once the transaction is successful.
No. The bank does not charge you any withdraw fees. You are only charged through your MTN Mobile Money account for each withdrawal.
All charges are borne by the person who has generated the TIN code and whose number is entered at the ATM machine.
