The Digital Access Program is the MTN Foundation’s flagship initiative, aiming to provide rural, remote, and underserved communities with access to ICT infrastructure.

The program is complemented by digital literacy, creating ICT resource centres/Hubs in hard-to-reach communities to act as beacons of access to the Internet and the benefits of a modern connected world. Since 2007, the Foundation has supported 94 ICT centres with either devices or internet connectivity.

In the year 2023-2025, the MTN Foundation focused on advancing the benefits of a modern connected life to differently abled learners and established 10 ICT Hubs and provided one year of internet services to support teaching and learning in inclusive schools across the Country.

In the first phase, MTN Foundation established Inclusive ICT Hubs at Masaka School for the Deaf in Masaka district, Salama School for the Blind in Mukono district, Hornby High School in Kabale district, Ngora School for the Deaf in Ngora district, and Gulu High School in Gulu city.

The schools supported under the second phase include Iganga Secondary School in Iganga district, Mvara Secondary School in Arua district, Ngetta Girls Primary School in Lira City, Kisoro Demonstration School in Kisoro district, and ST. Francis Madera Primary School in Soroti District.

The Digital Literacy Program equips youth and women in rural, remote, and underserved communities with essential digital skills through the MTN Internet Bus. The initiative delivers hands-on training in foundational computer use, safe and responsible internet navigation, and practical applications of Google tools such as maps, weather updates, and email communication. By bringing technology closer to communities, the program empowers
participants to confidently engage in the digital world and unlock new opportunities for learning, employment, and entrepreneurship.

Since 2022, MTN Foundation, in partnership with Maendeleo Foundation, has conducted 52
digital literacy camps across all regions of Uganda, covering 41 districts and trained 6,733 women and youth in peri-urban and rural communities.

Central – Buikwe, Masaka, Kalangala, Kampala, Mukono, Luweero, Arua, and Wakiso.

East – Mbale, Kamuli, Soroti, Bugiri, Jinja, and Tororo.

North – Gulu, Moyo, Moroto, Nebbi, Koboko, Arua, Lira, Kitgum, and Amuru.

Southwest – Sheema, Kabale, Kanungu, Rubirizi, Rukiga, Mbarara, Ntungamo, Isingiro, and Rwampara.

West – Bundibugyo, Kagadi, Kasese, Kabarole, Masindi, Kiryandongo, Hoima, Isingiro,
Kyenjojo, and Bushenyi.

Bridging the Digital Divide is a training initiative aimed at equipping primary and secondary Ugandan teachers implementing the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) with essential AI literacy, robotics, and digital integration skills. This transformative capacity-building program seeks to strengthen both teachers’ and students’ understanding by providing comprehensive digital knowledge and practical competencies in the use and application of artificial intelligence within the education sector.

As of 2025, 10 schools (8 Secondary and 2 Primary Schools) and a total of 202 teachers were trained on Introduction to AI & its Role in Education, AI Literacy for Educators, Practical AI Classroom Integration, Pedagogy Meets AI Blended, Hands-on Tool Training on KhanMingo, CanvaAI, CHATGPT4ALL, Grok, Gemini and In video.
