MTN MoMo today received the official handover of Lira Main Market from Lira City leadership in a ceremony that also marked the start of a collaborative effort to clean, enhance, and beautify one of the city’s most important commercial hubs.

Led by His Worship Mayor Sam Atul, the event brought together city clerks, the Resident City Commissioner, MTN MoMo staff, and market vendors in a unified exercise focused on urban cleanliness, community pride, and long-term market improvement.

Following the handover, participants engaged in a city-led market cleaning exercise, reinforcing the shared responsibility to maintain a hygienic and well-organized commercial environment. The activity reflects the city’s broader vision to transform Lira into a competitive, green, and equitable industrial and commercial hub over the next three decades.

Speaking during the event, Phillip Odoi, Regional Commercial Head, MTN Uganda, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting cities like Lira through initiatives that uplift communities and strengthen local economies.
“MTN MoMo is honoured to partner with Lira City on the beautification and renewal of this vital market. Under our Ambition 2025 strategy, we are committed to supporting socioeconomic progress and enabling individuals and businesses to benefit from a modern, connected life.
