Background

While several initiatives to help young people become employable have been launched by government and other actors, many degree/diploma holding graduates from tertiary institutions have been left out. As a result, institutions of higher learning have been accused of producing graduates who are theoretically grounded but with less soft and practical skills essential for the workplace. Fresh graduates require both generic and specific soft skills to enable them excel at work. It is against this background that MTN Uganda Foundation and Makerere University Business School through its Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Incubation Centre have partnered to implement the MTN Work Readiness (MWRP) Programme. The MWRP programme aims at equipping fresh graduates from various universities and tertiary institutions with essential soft skills to enable them fit well and excel at the workplace.

About the MTN Work Readiness Programme (MWRP)

The MWRP is an initiative of the MTN Uganda Foundation in partnership with Makerere University Business School – Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Incubation Centre (MUBS-EIIC) and ICT Centre. The initiative provides a three months soft skills training and internship to young fresh graduates from recognized Universities and institutions of higher learning by National Council of Higher Education in Uganda. A total of 100 recent graduates will be shortlisted to participate in the inaugural pilot phase of the programme. Fifty (50) of the shortlisted graduates will join cohort 1 and the other fifty (50) will join cohort 2. MTN Uganda and its partner organizations in the MWRP will provide internship and where possible permanent placement opportunities. MUBS-EIIC will provide soft skills training and mentorship to participants during the three (3) months internship period. MWRP now invites applications from young fresh graduates from recognized Universities in Uganda to apply for the MWRP implemented by MTN Foundation and MUBS-EIIC. Participants under this programme will be placed for internship at MTN and its partner organizations, trained and mentored in soft skills. Participants will also receive modest monthly stipend as a facilitation during the three (3) months internship period.
