MTN Uganda and Busoga Kingdom Launch the 8th Edition of the MTN Busoga Kingdom Masaza Tournament – Powered by Kabode

- MTN Uganda and Busoga Kingdom have launched the 8th edition of the MTN Busoga Kingdom Masaza Tournament – Powered by Kabode, featuring 14 football teams and continuing the tradition of men’s bicycle races.
- This year’s tournament theme is “Men are the Pillars in Ending Teenage Pregnancy”, aiming to inspire men to take a more active role in addressing the region’s high teenage pregnancy rates.
- Fans can own the Kabode Supa smartphone through MTN’s Mpola Mpola plan, with daily installments starting from UGX 1,000 by dialing *165*5*2*1# to check eligibility.
- Both players and fans will be rewarded through Kabode engagements, including Man of the Match prizes, overall team rewards, dribble challenges, and lucky dip draws at match venues.
MTN Uganda, in partnership with the Busoga Kingdom, has today launched the 8th edition of the MTN Busoga Masaza Football Tournament, powered by Kabode at the Kingdom’s headquarters at Bugembe.
The opening match of this year’s edition will see hosts Budiope face off against Bukono at Irundu Primary School in Buyende District on Saturday 12th July 2025.
This year’s edition of the tournament runs under the theme: “Men are the Pillars in Ending Teenage Pregnancy.” The initiative seeks to use sport as a platform to challenge and inspire men to take a more active role in reversing the rising cases of teenage pregnancy in the Busoga region.
“This tournament is not just about the game—it’s about driving real conversations in our communities. We thank MTN Uganda for continuing to walk with us as a true partner in using sport to bring about social change,” said Owekitiibwa Osman Noor Ahmed, the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister of the Busoga Kingdom.
The MTN Busoga Kingdom Masaza Tournament will feature 14 football teams from 11 chiefdoms, grouped into four competitive pools:
- Butembe Group: Butembe, Busiki, Kigulu, Bukooli Namayingo
- Mawembe Group: Bukono, Bunhole Bunanumba, Budiope, Bugweri
- Bukowe Group: Bugabula, Luuka, Bukooli Bugiri
- Kagulu Group: Bazaaya, Bulamogi, Bunha
As part of MTN’s ongoing commitment to youth and community development, this year’s tournament is powered by the Kabode Supa smartphone, which fans can now own through daily installments under MTN’s Mpola Mpola device financing plan.

- Man of the Match: For every football match, the best player as selected by the technical committee will receive a fully connected Kabode Supa smartphone courtesy of MTN Uganda
- Overall Tournament Winners: The football tournament champions will walk away with Kabode Supa smartphones among other prizes
- Kabode Fans Challenge: Fans at the matches will take part in engaging halftime activities such as:
- Dribble Challenges – winners take home a Kabode Supa phone
- Lucky Dip Draws – two lucky fans who purchase a Kabode Supa smartphone at the venue stand a chance to win UGX 100,000 each
As with previous editions, the MTN Kabode Busoga Kingdom Masaza Tournament will continue its tradition of including bicycle races for men, offering more avenues for youth engagement, healthy living, and competition beyond football.
This year, fan engagement will go a step further with an emphasis on the tournament’s theme. Men in the crowd will be directly engaged with questions like: “What are you doing as a man to end teenage pregnancy?”
These conversations are expected to spark change and challenge cultural silence around the issue.
