MTN Uganda has reaffirmed its partnership with the Ker Alur Kingdom by supporting the 8th edition of the Kopu P’Ubimu football games and the 4th edition of the MTN-sponsored bicycle races. The games, launched in Bar Okoro stadium Zombo District, will run until October 25, 2025, bringing together teams from the Alur chiefdoms of Jonam, Okoro, and Padyere, as well as from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The launch was marked by a friendly match between the Alur of Uganda and the Alur of DRC at Bar Okoro Stadium. The closely contested encounter ended 1–0 in favor of the Alur of DRC, setting the tone for an exciting month of football and bicycle racing.
This year’s theme, “Promoting Positive Parenting to End Teenage Pregnancy and Early Child Marriage,” underscores the role of sports in uniting communities and addressing pressing social challenges.
MTN Uganda’s support introduces a new element to the games through Kabode Supa smartphone rewards. Players will be recognized with Kabode phones for outstanding performances such as Man of the Match, while overall football champions and top winners of the men’s and women’s bicycle races will also receive Kabode phones. Fans will be engaged through halftime activities like dribble challenges, with Kabode Supa smartphones awarded to the winners.
Speaking at the launch, Phillip Odoi, MTN Uganda’s Northern Region Commercial Head, congratulated the Ker Alur Kingdom on hosting yet another edition of the Kopu P’Ubimu Games and bicycle races. “We are proud to once again stand with the Ker Alur Kingdom as we mark the 8th edition of the Kopu P’Ubimu Games and the 4th edition of the bicycle races. These activities are not only a celebration of talent but also an important platform for addressing key social issues that affect our communities. MTN Uganda is honored to provide support, including Kabode smartphone rewards, and we remain committed to walking this journey with the kingdom to uplift the lives of the Alur people.”
Vincent Ochaya, the Executive Director of the Alur Kingdom, thanked MTN Uganda for its steadfast partnership. “We are grateful to MTN Uganda for the consistent support extended to the people of Ker Alur. We are seeing, the numbers of girls getting married at teenage age are scaling down in the kingdom because the clan leaders have taken the fight against child marriages in the community.”
Since 2019, MTN Uganda has worked closely with the Ker Alur Kingdom through health, education, cultural, and sporting initiatives. This long-standing partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving the socio-economic and cultural well-being of the people. This year’s games will culminate in a grand final on October 25, 2025, followed by the 14th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty Ubimu Phillip Rauni III on November 1, 2025.
MTN Uganda’s support for the Kopu P’Ubimu Games demonstrates its dedication to empowering communities and strengthening cultural heritage while reinforcing the message that together, partnerships with the people are unstoppable.
