Overview

The Changemakers project, spearheaded by the MTN Foundation under the MTN @25 initiative, aims to partner with individuals and organisations to bring community dreams to life in Uganda. Inspired by everyday Ugandans making a positive impact on their communities. The project intends to inspire hope and drive positive change in local communities by supporting initiatives that boost economic growth and improve the quality of people’s lives. Through this collaborative effort, the Changemakers project seeks to enable and empower changemakers to continue their impactful work, contributing to a positive and sustainable transformation within Uganda. Projects will be supported with in-kind donations, this means that No Cash donations will be made.

 

Principles to apply to changemakers program.

The following good practice principles should be applied where possible:

  • Fall within the MTN Foundation’s Focus areas of Economic empowerment, Education and Health.
  • A focus on initiatives that are sustainable or have a lasting impact.
  • The intervention should address a community or societal need.
  • Ability to implement positive, direct change in the lives of beneficiaries.
  • A focus on effective stakeholder engagement
  • Hands on involvement by local leadership at the highest levels.
  • A focus on establishing direct relationships between MTN, development partners, and government

MTN Changemakers – Selected beneficiaries Central


  • EcoEmpower is an innovative project addressing the environmental and social challenges of plastic bottle waste in urban areas. We transform plastic bottle waste into polyester sewing threads, a valuable raw material for the textile industry.

     

    Purpose of funds: Purchase of bottle-crushing machines
    Sustainability of the project: The users will pay a maintainable fee.
    Additional Value: Promotes health and economic self-reliance.

     


  • The project aims to expand Dorna Centre Home for Autism’s vocational training program to equip young adults with autism with practical skills in areas such as arts and crafts, agriculture, and digital literacy. These skills will enable them to generate income.

    Purpose of funds:Purchase of training equipment. This will reduce the cost of running the weekly activities and enable the project to focus on students’ mental health needs.
    Sustainability of the project: The project is run by volunteers and seeks to continuously reduce running expenses.



  • A non-profit organization in Uganda providing care and support services to children with cancer.

    Purpose of funds: Purchase of children’s play materials
    Additional Value: Provide care to cancer patients



  • A volunteer-based non-profit organization promoting literacy and education for underprivileged children.

    Sustainability of the project: The 4040 foundation will maintain it.

  • Villa Maria Hospital is a private not-for-profit hospital located in Kalungu district and it belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Masaka. It was founded in 1902 by the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa as a small health post but later on it dev.

     

    Purpose of funds: Purchase and installation of rainwater harvesting equipment
    including 2 tanks and connection gutters for all three schools.
    Sustainability of the project: The Hospital will manage the donation.
    Additional Value: Providing clean water for residents and patients


  • The project looks to provide safe drinking water to the school children and the nearby community members. The project also looks to ensure that the school and teachers access drinking water for cooking and providing meals for children.

  • The Namulanda Primary School project immediately addresses the pressing demand for accessible water by establishing a dependable and sustainable source of clean, safe water for the school community. The school, which is located in a rural region.

  • Water project I would dig a water source which will use an electrical water pump in my village Kanyogoga and neighbouring villages to solve the problem of water in that community. People and other public sector like schools spend a lot of money.

  • Kalangala Home for Children with Special Needs (KHCSN) is a community-based organization operating and serving the 84 islands that makeup Kalangala District Local Government. KHCSN has been operating in Kalangala District for 3 years.

     

    Purpose of funds: Purchase of tools for empowerment training

  • The project name is Carpentry and Joinery. The management of Uganda Prisons has started a small furniture workshop to help repair furniture in prisons and to create other furniture. An organization called APROCEL took an interest and funded the skilling program.

     

    Purpose of funds: Purchase of carpentry equipment.
    Sustainability of the project: The project will be sustained through the prison’s administrative management.
    Additional Value: Upskilling prisoners.


  • The project aims to empower literacy among children from the Rwamwanja Refugee Camp and the surrounding host communities by integrating traditional literacy instruction with creative arts. In a region with limited access to quality education, this project.

     

    Purpose of funds: Installation of water tanks.
    Sustainability of the project: The Village committee will take on the management.
    Additional Value: Provide the community with safe water.


  • To provide safe drinking water to 5457 individuals in Butunduzi Sub-County in Kyenjojo district To equip 280 students and 120 members of their immediate communities with Knowledge on WASH and the environment to foster behavioural change. To reduce water.

  • The project is entirely based on helping the school and the community to improve in Sanitation aspects, acquire skills and generate income as prescribed below. 1. Construction of sanitary house for females at Kithoma Primary School P.O. BOX 225 Kasese.

  • Empowering Single Mothers and Deprived Children in Education \”ESMDCE is a project started in 2023 by a few committed members after seeing the need to help single mothers and Deprived Children. With a vision to empower them for the Future. To provide financial assistance and scholarships to single mothers to pursue education or vocational training and offer educational support programs for underprivileged children..

  • The Rural Tech Hubs for Girls aims at providing parity in the application of technology and IT studies to young and vulnerable girls in the rural areas of Africa. The project also aims at placing the computer literacy centres in the reach of vulnerable communities.

  • Itinga Charity Education Foundation (ICEF) seeks a Partnership with MTN Foundation to become a change maker in supporting the “Inclusive Education Project\” to enhance learning for visually impaired students in northern Uganda particularly at St. Mary Goretti S.S.

  • This project seeks to increase access to safe water and basic sanitation by empowering local communities to construct 6 protected spring wells in Lira District. This project will contribute to improved health of the local communities.

  • To attain a general overview of Sanitation and Hygiene needs and gaps in solid waste disposal and other WASH practices in Amuca SDA secondary school. To avert water and sanitation-related illnesses or disease outbreaks related to poor hygiene.

     

    Purpose of funds: Completion of new latrine facility.
    Sustainability of the project: The school will maintain the facility.
    Additional Value: Clean and convenient wash facilities


  • Improved Health: Access to clean, safe water reduces the prevalence of waterborne diseases like cholera and dysentery. Reliable piped water systems minimize the need for households to rely on potentially contaminated sources like river water.

  • The Briquette Making Project is an initiative designed to empower community women while promoting environmental sustainability. This project focuses on transforming organic waste, such as agricultural residues and kitchen scraps, into eco-friendly briquet.

     

    Purpose of funds: Procurement of briquet-making machinery
    Sustainability of the project: Proceeds of the project deliverables.
    Additional Value:Provide an income source for retired female teachers.


  • The overall objective of this project is to skill women and girls in sewing and embroidery of different products like basket weaving, earrings, neckless, reusable sanitary pads, women’s and children’s clothes, bags, mats, and decorations for hire.

    Purpose of funds: Purchase of sewing machines and assorted tailoring consumables.
    Sustainability of the project: Income from the produced attire will be used to sustain the project.
    Additional Value: Training youth in vocational skills to contribute and be productive citizens.


  • This project aims to integrate School gardens as a co-curricular activity in 5 selected schools across Budaka District, Uganda, to complement the new lower secondary school curriculum. By aligning with educational reforms.

     

    Purpose of funds: purchase of school garden inputs
    Sustainability of the project: The school management committee will take it on.
    Additional Value:Improved nutrition of school children.


  • Sustainable clean and safe water for Budidi Primary School. My project aims at providing accessibility to sustainable, clean and safe water for the primary school pupils and the whole community of Budidi, a rural area in Namayingo district Easter

     

    Purpose of funds: Installation of rainwater harvesting tanks.

  • The project intended to extend and provide clean portable safe drinking water to 6,680 residents of Kamuda Sub-County Soroti District in Teso, the Extension of piped Water to Amotot Primary School will serve more than 1,800 Pupils.

    Purpose of funds: Extension of safe water access.
    Sustainability of the project: The community will support the maintaiance.
    Additional Value:Providing clean and safe water to the community of soroti.

Terms and Conditions

MTN UGANDA FOUNDATION CHANGEMAKERS PROGRAMME TERMS AND CONDITIONS

These Terms and Conditions govern your participation in the Change Makers Programme. By signing below or by submitting your application on the MTN Website or by submitting your WhatsApp video, you confirm that you have read these Terms and Conditions and that you agree to be bound by them.

  1. DURATION

The Programme will run from 28/10/2025 to 28/11/2025.

  1. APPLICATION AND ENTRY
  • I/ We acknowledge that the purpose of the programme is to empower communities and have a multiplier effect.
  • I/ We understand the nature of the programme and by agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, I/ We hereby consent to the recording and use of my/ our contribution to the programme in accordance with the terms and conditions herein stated.
  • There is no entry fee to the ChangeMakers Programme.
  • Multiple entries of the same project shall be disqualified.
  • Applications MUST be submitted online or via WhatsApp by submitting a video or by submitting a completed hard copy application form to the nearest MTN Service Centre.
  1. ELIGIBILITY
  • All Applicants must be 18 years and above to participate.
  • All Ugandans can apply for their communities
  • Applicants with criminal records shall be automatically disqualified.
  • The programme is open to all projects in Uganda that fall within the MTN Uganda Foundation’s Focus areas of Economic empowerment, Education, Health, Agriculture, water, and environment.
  1. CRITERIA FOR PROJECT SELECTION
  • The Project must focus on initiatives that are sustainable or have a lasting impact.
  • The intervention of the project should address a community or societal need.
  • The project must have the ability to implement positive, direct change in the lives of the beneficiaries.
  • The project must focus on effective stakeholder engagement, whereby those involved or affected by the initiative are consulted before the project is chosen and implemented.
  • The Project should have hands on involvement by local leadership at the highest levels. This is required to show transparency and showcase community involvement.
  • The project must attempt to obtain the maximum value from the given budget i.e., leveraging available resources.
  • The project must comply with the laws and regulations of Uganda.
  • The following projects shall not be considered under the ChangeMakers Programme;
  • Projects whose implementation value exceeds twenty million Uganda Shillings (Ugshs. 20,000,000/=).
  • Projects that would take longer than three (3) months to implement.
  • The criteria indicated under Clause 4 is subject to constant review by MTN Foundation.
  • Projects will be supported with in-kind donations, this means that No Cash donations will be made.
  1. SUBMISSIONS

  • Applicants must complete the application form on the URL provided above.
  • The submission deadline is 28th November 2025 at 11:59 pm.
  1. COMMITTEE DECISIONS

The committee has full authority and discretion to make final decisions regarding the outcome of the submissions.

  1. INDEMNITY
  • I / We hereby indemnify and hold harmless MTN Uganda Foundation, its officials, agents, volunteers, and employees against and liability, injury or death that I/We may sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with or associated with the ChangeMakers Programme.
  • I/We agree to indemnify and hold MTN Uganda Foundation, its affiliated entities, and their respective employees, officers, agents, licensees, and assigns, harmless from any claim and/or liability arising from my/ our failure to obtain the permissions and grants of authority described in these terms and conditions including all claims for infringement of copyright or any form of intellectual property.
  • I/We further agree to indemnify MTN Uganda Foundation, its affiliated entities, and their respective employees, officers, directors, agents, licensees, and assigns, harmless from any and all liability howsoever arising including oversight, negligence, or willful misconduct.
  1. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
  • I/We represent and warrant to MTN Uganda Foundation that all videos and information submitted to MTN Uganda Foundation are original and shall not infringe upon or violate any patent, copyright, or proprietary right of any person or third party.
  • MTN Uganda Foundation has the right to remove and/or reject any video or information that violates the intellectual property rights of others (including trademark, copyright, and other proprietary rights) or content that encourages or induces infringement of intellectual property rights of others.
  1. RIGHTS OF MTN UGANDA FOUNDATION
  • MTN Uganda Foundation reserves the right to choose who takes part in the ChangeMakers Programme based on the online, video/WhatsApp and hard copy submissions. Contestants will be notified via email should their application be successful and notified on the venue of the auditions.
  • By Participating in the ChangeMakers Programme, you further grant and assign to MTN Uganda Foundation an irrevocable, perpetual, royalty-free, transferable license to use the content submitted for Media, Public Relations (PR) and any other communication related activities.
  • By participating in this Programme, you agree and consent to MTN Uganda Foundation’s collection, use and retention of the personal information that you provide for all purposes related to the Programme (including, but not limited to, processing and administering entries, sharing an entrant’s personal information with MTN Uganda Foundation’s service providers and contractors as necessary to conduct and operate the Programme, communicating with selected Participants, making public announcements of selected Participants, and advertising, promoting and publicizing this Programme.
  • You also acknowledge that your information may be subject to the privacy policies of third parties and understand that the use of your data by any such third party is subject to the applicable privacy policy and that MTN Uganda Foundation is not responsible for such use.
  • MTN Foundation reserves the right to monitor and document the impact of the project beyond the period of the ChangeMakers Programme.
  • Any submissions made in violation of these terms will be disqualified whether during or after the selection process and the errant Participants, if already selected, will immediately be disqualified.
  1. GENERAL TERMS
  • Any communication or material you do submit will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary. Anything you submit may be used by MTN Uganda Foundation, its affiliates, for any purpose, including, but not limited to, reproduction, disclosure, transmission, publication, broadcast and posting.
  • MTN Uganda Foundation may edit, copy, publish, distribute, translate, and otherwise use in any medium any submission that you forward to MTN Uganda Foundation and shall be under no obligation to: (1) maintain any of your or any user’s submissions in confidence; (2) to pay to you or any user any compensation for any submissions; or (3) to respond to any of your or any other user’s submissions.
  • The ChangeMakers Programme will be cancelled where it is void in whole, or in part where prohibited by Law.
  • MTN Foundation is committed to respecting and protecting the privacy of the personal information we collect from you in compliance with the applicable laws and obligations.
  • MTN Uganda Foundation is not responsible for any entry that is incomplete or incorrect, or for any failures, errors, or delays with respect to submission of any entry.
  • Any attempt by you to deliberately interfere with or manipulate the Programme may be a violation of criminal and/or civil Law and may result, among other things, in disqualification from the Programme.
  • MTN Uganda Foundation reserves the right, without prior notice and at any time, to terminate or suspend the Programme, in whole or in part, or to modify the Programme, should any factor (including but not limited to fraud or copyright infringement) interfere with the Programme as contemplated by these terms and conditions or if MTN Uganda Foundation believes that the Programme has been or will be compromised in any way.
  • Ugandan Law shall govern this Programme and any litigation of a dispute arising out of, or in connection with the Programme shall be subject to the sole and exclusive jurisdiction of Ugandan courts.
  • By participating, you irrevocably submit to the sole and exclusive jurisdiction of such courts for such purpose and waive any objection in connection with the same.

 

FAQs

What is MTN Changemakers.

The MTN believes that we all have a role to improve our communities and that anyone can make that difference. The MTN change maker is an initiative that is seeking to support individuals and organisations that either have ideas or are already implementing projects in their communities to improve people’s lives.

Why this initiative?

This initiative is part of MTN Uganda Foundation. As a company we recognize that it would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the support of our customers and the communities within which we operate. And therefore, this initiative reflects our commitment to the belief that if we stand together as a nation and support each other, we can achieve the change we want to see in our communities. We believe that Ugandans have shown themselves to be exceptional dreamers and doers. They have the ability to do extraordinary things with passion, and, therefore needs small support to realise their dreams and transform their communities.

Which areas is this initiative focusing on?

This initiative is focusing on MTN Foundation’s five key areas namely; economic empowerment, education, health, water and sanitation and agriculture.

Who is eligible to apply for this initiative?

Application is open to all people with a heart to change their communities within Uganda that are above the age of 18 with no criminal record.

What are the timelines for making the application?

The application is now on and ends on 28th November 2025. Selected winners will be announced after review of applications.

How do you plan to ensure fair participation of Ugandans across the country in this initiative?
The heart of this project is to ensure that every eligible Ugandan can participate.
We will ensure that winners come from all the five sub regions of Uganda; North, East, Greater Central; Central; and West.

How many projects is MTN Uganda looking at supporting in this initiative?

We are looking at supporting 25 communities in the five-sub regions of Uganda mentioned with an added advantage to community projects that impact youth, women and persons with disabilities among others. Selected winners in this initiative will receive support not exceeding UGX 20 million to help them realise their dreams. In total, we hope to invest half a billion shillings (UGX 0.5BN). Projects will be supported with in-kind donations, this means that No Cash donations will be made.

When will successful winners commence project implementation?

Successful applicants will commence their project implementations, followed up by profiling of implemented projects in the first quarter of 2026.
