MTN Kafyu Calls Terms and conditions.

On the 1st April, the government instituted a lockdown affecting many Ugandans that earn on a daily basis.

In a bid to drive affordability of communication for our customers hence allowing them to check on their family members, MTN Uganda is introducing a promotion dubbed “Kafyu Calls” where customers can make affordable calls at night at a nominal daily subscription of UGX 100/-.

Below are the terms and condition of this promotion:

  1. This promotion is available to all mobile customers both prepaid and postpaid
  2. Any customer can subscribe to Kafyu calls by dialing *160*19# directly or through our main shortcode menus of *160# and *165# and selecting voice bundles. The customer can also subscribe through My MTN App
  3. Kafyu calls are accessed through a daily subscription fee of 100/- ( tax inclusive). The customer gets 60Mins that they can use to call between 10pm on the day of purchase and 8am the following day
  4. The customer can subscribe using Airtime or MoMo
  5. The promotion will run for 45 days from 10th April 2020 to 24th May 2020

“Work From Home” data bundle – Terms And Conditions

1.  The volume is 1GB

2.  The cost is Ushs 2,000/-

3.  Validity is 9 am – 5 pm daily

4.  All unused data expires after 5 pm

5.  The “Work From Home” data bundle can be purchased outside the 9 am – 5 pm window

6.  If purchased outside the 9 am – 5 pm window, the “Work From Home” data bundle will be used in the next 9 am – 5 pm window

7.  Customers can load the “Work From Home” data bundle as many times as they want

8.  A customer can buy the “Work From Home” data bundle for another MTN data customer

9.  Payment for the “Work From Home” data bundle is exclusively through MTN Mobile Money

10.  This offer valid for 30 days


Fight Corona offer MTN Mobile Money offer – Terms And Conditions

1. MTN Mobile Money customers can send any amount of Mobile Money every day to other MTN MoMo customers free of charge

2. Every registered MTN Mobile Money customer is entitled to an unlimited number of transactions per day.

3. This offer is between MTN to MTN transactions and is not applicable to international transactions or those between MTN and other local networks

4. This offer is valid for 30 days

General Terms And Conditions

1 MTN shall not be held responsible for any injury, loss, expense or damage of any kind whatsoever suffered or incurred by any person who accesses or uses this website (“the User”) as a result of the User accessing this website, utilising any service offered on this website or relying on any information contained on this website for any reason whatsoever including but not limited to any injury, loss or damage suffered as a result of:

    1. 1.1 errors or discrepancies in the information provided
    2. 1.2 any unauthorised access of this website by third parties
    3. 1.3 any breakdown or failure of any equipment or medium of access to this website
    4. 1.4 any failure or unavailability of any of MTN’s or any third parties’ facilities or systems resulting in the inability to access this website or process any transaction referred to or offered on this website
    5. 1.5 the destruction or accessing of the User’s data or equipment
    6. 1.6 any alteration, modification, upgrade or update of this website or any technology, hardware or software modification that may form part of this website.

2 The User hereby indemnifies MTN against any demand, claim or action against MTN relating to or in connection with the User’s use or accessing of this website whether directly or indirectly for any reason whatsoever.

3 MTN reserves the right in its absolute discretion to alter, modify, upgrade, update, suspend or withdraw this website or any part thereof at any time.

4 Unless expressly stated to the contrary MTN owns the intellectual property rights in and to this website and the unauthorised use thereof is expressly prohibited. ​


SIM Card Terms And Conditions

Terms and conditions for purchase and/or use of MTN Pay as you Go Starter Pack

1 Your cell phone number (“MSISDN”) is printed on the SIM CARD packet with this Starter SIM PACK (“kit”).

2 If you do not connect your SIM card to the MTN network within SIX (6) months of purchasing it or do not utilize it on the MTN network for a period of 90 consecutive days (a chargeable call excluding SMS needs to be made), MTN shall be entitled to cancel the MSISDN number. Should you wish to continue to make calls on the MTN Network, MTN reserves the right to change the period within which to connect your SIM card to the MTN Network, and this shall be at MTN’s sole discretion.

3 The SIM Card contained in this kit allows you to make local, and International calls on the MTN network.

4 All calls made shall be billed depending on the prepaid price plan chosen. We currently have 6 tariff plans.

Peak/ Off-peak/ Discount:

4.1 MTN Per Second: calls will be charged in per second-time units for the duration of the call. The full charge will be levied for all the seconds utilised. This applies to calls made using the standard Voice. This is the default tariff on the MTN PayAsYouGo sim card.

4.2 MTN Late Chat: this package is suitable for people who make lots of late-night calls and send lots of SMSs. Rates are discounted at the selected times.

4.3 MTN PayAsYouGo Flat: This package offers you a flat rate regardless of whether you are calling at peak, off-peak or discount hours, 24/7.

4.4 MTN PayAsYouGo Standard: This is a prepaid package tailored for customers who prefer making most of their calls during the discount time.

4.5 MTN PayAsYouGo Plus: This a prepaid tariff that enables you to access lower tariffs over a thirty day period on loading an MTN PayAsYouGo Plus card.

4.6 MTN Zone: is a product that gives you discounted tariffs up to 99% everywhere you go from time to time and you are guaranteed a minimum discount of 10% anytime.


Please Note:

a) The Prepaid Price Plan indicated above may be changed at any time by MTN without prior notification.

b) You may change your prepaid price profile/Tariff plan at a cost determined by MTN. The procedure of changing the Tariff plan will be advertised in the press and handouts. You can also visit any MTN Customer Service Centre or Call an MTN TOLL FREE HELPLINE – 123 for assistance in this regard.


5 The MTN Pay as you Go tariff guide sets out the prices of calls payable for access to MTN Network. MTN reserves the right to alter such prices and fees at any time and without any prior notice.

6 Should you receive a call on your cell phone, the cost of such a call shall be for the caller’s account at the rate applicable on the relevant network used by the caller. Except that for international roaming you will pay for the roaming charges on incoming calls.

7 MTN is not responsible for any calls and/or services being cut off due to your credit having expired or for any other reason. MTN will, however, advise you that your airtime balance on MTN Per second and MTN PayAsYouGo Flat tariff at the end of each call. You will also be notified on your balance by;

7.1 USSD notification at the End of a call (MTN Latechat, MTN PayAsYouGo Flat, MTN Zone, MTN Per second)

7.2 USSD notification for Bonus on MTN CashBack (on all tariff plans).

7.3 Incall voice announcement (call cut off warning announcement 20 seconds before the call is cut off) – on all tariff plans.


8 MTN is not responsible for any calls being interrupted and/ or failing for any reason or for any interruption in Network services.

9 You will be able to make and receive calls only in areas covered by MTN Uganda in the Republic of Uganda or in any other Country where MTN Uganda has a roaming partner operating and with a signal in the particular area where you are. You are required to activate your roaming before you leave Uganda. You will not be able to utilise your SIM card on any other network operating in Uganda.

10 Your SIM card may allow you to access other value-added services which are supported by other service providers. You will be notified of the terms relating to such value-added services upon subscription therefor. It is expressly understood by the customer that MTN shall not in any way be for any interruption or degradation of any such value-added services any more than it (MTN) would be hereunder.

11 Risks in and to the products services contained in this kit transfers upon delivery of the kit to you. Accordingly, MTN takes no responsibility for any loss or damage of any of the contents of this kit, including inter alia the SIM Card or airtime card where applicable. In the event of losing your cell phone, airtime and /or SIM Card, such items must be replaced at your own cost.

12 MTN is under no obligation to give you any proof of how your airtime has been used or of any calls made or received on your cell phone. Accordingly, MTN is under no obligation to give itemised information with respect to any call records for your cell phone or MSISDN. In the event of any query regarding airtime usage, please call the toll free line 123, email; or visit an MTN Customer Service Centre for assistance. Please note: The Toll-free line numbers may be changed from time to time with or without notice.

13 For security reasons, should you incorrectly enter your PIN code more than three (3) consecutive times, your SIM card will be blocked in which event you shall not be able to make or receive calls on the SIM card. You can unblock your sim card by simply entering the “PUK” number printed on your cardholder into your cell phone. In the event that you block your sim card the second time, you are advised to see our customer advisers at MTN Service centre for assistance.

14 Please ensure that the security seal surrounding the kit is opened in your presence, as MTN is not responsible for any missing contents from this kit should the seal have been opened prior to its delivery to you.

15 Should you lose your SIM card and/or cell phone you should report this to MTN immediately.

16 In the event of losing your SIM card, you have the choice of either purchasing a new SIM Card with a new MSISDN or effecting a SIM swap from an MTN Authorised Dealer or MTN Service Centre in accordance with any relevant regulatory requirements.

17 In purchasing this kit:

17.1 You acknowledge that MTN shall not be liable for any loss, injury or damage to any person arising out of the possession and/or use of your cell phone or the contents of this kit.

17.2 You indemnify MTN and hold it harmless from and against any liability arising out of claims made against MTN, its employees and/or its agents in connection with the use of the cell phone and the contents of this kit. Furthermore, you acknowledge that MTN shall not be liable for any loss or damage or injury to you or any person arising out of the possession and/or use of your cell phone or the contents of the kit.


18 You may not in any way tamper with, modify or decompile your SIM Card. In the event that MTN has reason to believe that you have tampered with your SIM Card, MTN reserves the right to suspend your network services.

19 Without detracting from any other provisions of these terms and conditions, MTN shall not be liable to you for loss or damage suffered by you and whether same is direct or consequential in the event that loss or damage was caused by any negligent act or omission on the part of MTN, its employees and/or its agents.

20 No warranties are given on the relation to the MTN network.

21 You are entitled to refer any disputes relating to the MTN Network to the Uganda Communications Commissions or any other independent Communications Authority of Uganda.

22 In the event of the VAT and Excise duty rate being varied in any way, the number of units contained in your airtime card will decrease or increase proportionately.

23 MTN reserves the right to, without notice, to change the method by which you purchase your Prepaid Airtime on the Network. Any services made available to you upon your purchase of this kit may be varied by MTN from time to time. Furthermore, the charges of such services (if any) may be varied by MTN without notice.

24 Upon termination of the provision of Network services to you for any reason, you will forfeit any airtime not utilised at the date of termination.

25 MTN reserves the right to amend the terms and conditions relating to the services. Where MTN decides in its discretion to give notification to its customers of any changes or terms relating to its services, such notice shall be given in the press or any medium which MTN in its discretion selects. Such notice shall be deemed to have been received by MTN’s customers and to be sufficient.


WhatsNext Terms And Conditions

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of this website and your participation in the ‘What’s your next dream’ online campaign. By clicking on “I Accept” below, you confirm that you have read these Terms and Conditions and that you agree to be bound by them.


1.1  I/ We acknowledge that the purpose of the competition is the submission of a one-minute video describing my/ our next dream to the MTN Website and the competition will require a review by a judging committee.

1.2  I/ We understand the nature of the competition and by agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, I/ We hereby consent to the recording and use of my/ our contribution to the competition in accordance with terms and conditions herein stated.

1.3 There is no entry fee to the ‘What’s your next dream’ online competition.

1.4 Only one entry will be accepted per person/ group. Multiple entries from the same person/ group shall be disqualified.


2.1 All contestants must be 18 years and above in order to participate.

2.2 The Competition is open to all citizens of Uganda, official residents and those legally working in Uganda.

2.3 MTN Staff are NOT eligible to participate.

2.4 All participants with criminal records shall be automatically disqualified.


3.1 We hereby warrant that We have not entered into any commercial, sponsorship or other partnership agreement or arrangement with any person, firm or company in respect of my/our entry in the competition and/or my next dream application and will not do so.


4.1 All Contestants must provide a 45 to 60-second video that is not more than 200MB in size in order to qualify for the competition. The video must not be edited, distorted or enhanced in any way.

4.2 The Contestant’s video must not contain any material which is in any way defamatory, obscene, unlawful, harmful, offensive or inappropriate or which infringes the rights of any third party. You also agree not to advertise or promote third parties’ or your own goods or services in the video

4.3 By submitting  your video, you hereby grant us an irrevocable license to use, edit, reproduce, distribute, transmit, broadcast, make available and display your video (or part of your video) (including but not limited to your performance) without charge by any medium or method now known or later invented including without limitation online or on television to be exercised in our sole discretion throughout the world in perpetuity. You agree to waive, and that the director of your video has waived any moral rights that may exist in relation to your video.


5.1 If Contestants/Acts start as a duo, trio or group they must continue through the competition in the same format and cannot, under any circumstances, split and compete as soloists.


6.1 The judging committee’s decisions are final regarding the outcome of the competition which is in the committee’s discretion.


7.1 We understand and acknowledge that the video involves some degree of risk of personal injury.
We warrant that We are medically sound, physically fit and have sufficiently prepared or trained for participation in the video recording.
We agree to abide by and follow the rules and regulations established for the recording and submission of the video.


8.1 We hereby indemnify and hold harmless MTN, its officials, agents, volunteers and employees against any liability, injury or death that I/We may sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with or associated with the ‘What’s your next dream’ online competition.

8.2 I agree to indemnify and hold MTN, its affiliated entities, and their respective employees, officers, agents, licensees, and assigns, harmless from any claim and/or liability arising from my/ our failure to obtain the permissions and grants of authority described in these terms and conditions including all claims for infringement of copyright or any form of intellectual property.

8.3 I further agree to indemnify MTN, its affiliated entities, and their respective employees, officers, directors, agents, licensees, and assigns, harmless from any and all liability howsoever arising including oversight, negligence, or willful misconduct.


9.1 I grant full authority, copyright and other proprietary rights `of all my recordings (audio, visual and photos) under this competition to be used by MTN UGANDA LIMITED.

9.2 MTN has the right to remove and/or reject any video that violates intellectual property rights of others (including trademark, copyright, and other proprietary rights) or video content that encourages or induces infringement of intellectual property rights.


10.1 MTN reserve the right to choose who takes part in the auditions based on the online application submissions on this site. Contestants will be notified via SMS should their application be successful and notified on the venue of the auditions.

10.2 By Participating in the ‘What’s your next dream’ online competition, you further grant and assign to MTN an irrevocable, perpetual, royalty-free, transferable license to use the video for Media, PR and any other communication-related activities.

10.3 You also acknowledge that MTN shall be the only brand with the right to use the video(s) for Media, PR and other communication-related activities.

10.4 By entering this competition, you agree and consent to MTN’s collection, use and retention of the personal information that you provide to MTN for all purposes related to this competition (including, but not limited to, processing and administering entries, sharing an entrant’s personal information with MTN’s service providers and contractors as necessary to conduct and operate the Competition, communicating with and awarding prizes to winners, making public announcements about winners, and advertising, promoting and publicizing this competition

10.5 You also acknowledge that your information may be subject to the privacy policies of third parties and understand that the use of your data by any such third party is subject to the applicable privacy policy and that MTN is not responsible for such use.


11.1 The Competition will be cancelled where it is void in whole, or in part where prohibited by Law.

11.2 MTN is not responsible for any entry that is incomplete or incorrect, or for any failures, errors, or delays with respect to submission of any entry.

11.3 Any attempt by you to deliberately interfere with or manipulate the competition may be a violation of criminal and/or civil law and may result, among other things, in disqualification from the competition.

11.4 MTN reserves the right, without prior notice and at any time, to terminate or suspend the competition, in whole or in part, or to modify the competition, should any factor (including but not limited to fraud or copyright infringement ) interfere with the competition as contemplated by these terms and conditions or if MTN believes that the competition has been or will be compromised in any way.

11.5 Ugandan Law shall govern this competition and any litigation of a dispute arising out of, or in connection with the competition shall be subject to the sole and exclusive jurisdiction of Ugandan courts.

11.6 By participating, you irrevocably submit to the sole and exclusive jurisdiction of such courts for such purpose and waive any objection in connection with the same.
