- To access a MoKash loan a customer should have first saved with MoKash. Customers can save as low as UGX 50.
- You can access a loan between UGX 3,000 and up to UGX 1,500,000 depending on your loan limit with a 9% facilitation fee.
- If your total loan limit is not fully utilized yet, you can claim your available limit in a maximum of two top-ups within the first 20 days of the existing loan term at a 9% facilitation fee per top-up .
- Total loan repayment period, including top-ups is 30 days.
- If the total loan, inclusive of any top-ups is not paid within the 30-day period, customer will extend the outstanding loan for another 30 days at a fee of 9%.
- Loan or top-up is deposited directly to the customers MTN Mobile Money account.
- To get a loan, or top-up to your existing loan, dial *165*5#, select MoKash, then Loans and follow the steps. Remember to check your Loan Limit.
What is the MoKash Loan Top-Up?
The MoKash Loan Top-Up is a feature that allows MoKash customers to borrow additional funds on top of existing MoKash loans before settling their initial loans on the same mobile number, on condition that this is within their current MoKash loan limit.
Who is eligible for a Loan top-up?
You are eligible if:
- Your loan limit has not been fully utilized.
- Your current loan is still within its first 20 days.
- You have not already topped up your loan two times.
How do I request a Loan Top-Up?
You can request a top-up directly from your MoKash menu on your phone:
- Dial *165*40#
- Select Loans.
- Select Request Top-Up Loan.
- Enter the amount you wish to top up (within your remaining loan limit).
How much can I top up?
The top-up amount depends on your remaining available loan limit after taking the initial loan. For example, if your loan limit is UGX 100,000 and you initially borrowed UGX 60,000, you may top up to UGX 40,000 (in one or two transactions).
Does my loan term get extended after a top-up?
No. The loan still expires 30 days after the original disbursement. Top-ups do not extend the due date.
How many times can I top up my loan?
You can top up your existing loan up to two times within the first 20 days of your initial loan.
Do I repay all top ups at once?
Yes. All top-ups are merged into one loan to arrive at one outstanding balance. You’ll repay the full amount within the 30-day term from your first loan date.
Will I be charged extra interest for a top-up?
Yes. Each top-up will attract a separate interest of 9%. However, the total interest charged on the top-ups plus the initial drawdown still equate to 9% of the total amount borrowed. All amounts added together form the total outstanding balance which will be due on the same maturity date (maturity date of the initial draw down).
Can I repay my loan earlier after topping up?
Yes. You may repay your loan (initial + top-up) in full any time before the due date to improve your credit standing and grow your loan limit.
What happens if I don’t pay my Mokash loan or Mokash top up on time?
Late loan repayment attracts an additional fee of 9%, and you risk losing your loan limit and being negatively list with the CRBs.
What is CRB?
CRB stands for Credit Reference Bureau. This is an organization licensed by the Bank of Uganda to collect and maintain credit information on borrowers from regulated financial institutions. Being listed with the Credit Reference Bureau means your MoKash loan history is shared with licensed bureaus to build your credit profile and support future loan assessments.
How can I update my CRB record?
Once you clear your outstanding MoKash loan, NCBA updates your repayment status with the CRB within 72 hours.
How can I avoid a negative CRB listing?
Repay your MoKash loan on or before the due date.
