1. What is XtraCashBiz?
XtraCashBiz is a digital lending service offered by Eco Bank Uganda Limited in partnership with MTN Mobile Money (U) Limited. It provides short-term working capital loans to MTN MoMo informal merchants directly through their MoMo merchant wallet via USSD *155*4#.
2. Who is eligible for XtraCashBiz?
You are eligible if you:
- Are an active MTN MoMo informal merchant
- Are at least 18 years old
- Have been an MTN MoMo subscriber for at least 6 months (at least 90 days for the merchant wallet)
- Have transacted on your mobile money account within the last 90 days
- Have applicable KYC data registered
3. What are key product features?
- Loan amount: UGX 1,000 to UGX 1,000,000
- Tenure options: 14-day loan or 30-day loan
- Access fee: 7.5% (14-day) or 10.5% (30-day)
- No collateral required
- Funds disbursed directly to your MoMoPay merchant wallet
- Accessible via USSD *155*4#
- Repayment through manual repayment, auto sweep on due date, or auto debit on overdue loans

5. When can a Merchant borrow this Loan?
XtraCashBiz is available 24/7. You can apply for a loan at any time by dialing *155*4# on your MTN line. Approval is instant, and funds are disbursed immediately to your merchant wallet.
6. What are the costs associated with the loan?
Two loan tenures are available:
• 14-Day Loan – Access Fee: 7.5% of the loan amount
• 30-Day Loan – Access Fee: 10.5% of the loan amount
If you do not repay on time, a penalty fee of 7% will be applied on the outstanding principle balance after the due date. There are no additional charges for loan disbursement or collection.
7. How do I sign up?
Dial *155# on your MTN line → Select ‘Business Loans’ → Select ‘XtraCashBiz’ → Review the Terms & Conditions → Enter your MoMo PIN to confirm. Once accepted, you will be registered and can access the XtraCashBiz menu.
8. How do I access the loan?
After registration, dial *155# → Business Loans → XtraCashBiz → Take Loan → Enter the amount you wish to borrow (within your displayed limit) → Select your preferred tenure (14 or 30 days) → Confirm with your MoMo PIN. The loan amount will be disbursed to your merchant wallet immediately.
9. Can I repay early?
Yes. You can make partial or full repayments at any time before or after the due date. Dial *155# → Business Loans → XtraCashBiz→ Repay Loan → Enter amount → Confirm with MoMo PIN. Early repayment does not attract any additional fees.
10. Can I take multiple loans at the same time?
No. Only one merchant loan is allowed at a time. Additionally, if you already have an outstanding consumer (retail) loan on your personal wallet, you cannot take a merchant loan until that loan is settled.
11. How do I grow my loan limit?
Your credit limit is determined by OPTASIA based on your credit score, transaction history on your merchant wallet, repayment behavior, and other profile information. To grow your limit:
• Repay your loans on time or early
• Maintain regular transactions on your merchant wallet
• Build a positive repayment history over time
Your limit will be reviewed and adjusted periodically as your repayment history improves.
12. What if I want to opt-out?
You can opt out only if you have no outstanding loan balance. To opt out:
Dial *155# → Business Loans → XtraCashBiz → My Account → Close Account/Opt-Out → Enter your MoMo PIN.
If you have a running loan, you will be notified to repay first before opting out. Note that when you opt out, you will lose access to your transaction history. However, if you opt back in later, your previous transaction history will still be considered for credit scoring.
13. How is repayment made?
You can repay via:
• Manual Repayment (Partial or Full): Dial *155# → Business Loans → XtraCashBiz → Repay Loan→Enter amount → Confirm with MoMo PIN
• Auto Sweep: On the due date, the system will attempt to collect the outstanding amount automatically from your merchant wallet
• Auto Debits: If overdue, any funds deposited into your wallet will be auto-applied to the loan
Repayments are applied in the following order:
1. Outstanding fees and charges
2. Penalty fees (if any)
3. Principal loan amount
14. What happens if I do not repay on time?
If you do not repay by the due date:
• A penalty fee of 7% will be applied on the outstanding principle balance after the due date
• The system will attempt to auto-collect the outstanding amount from your merchant wallet
• An auto-debit flag will be placed on your account, so any future deposits into your wallet will automatically be applied toward repaying the outstanding loan
• Continued default may result in suspension of the service and referral to a debt-collection agency.
