What is Family Cover by MoMo? What is Family Cover by MoMo?

Family Cover allows you to purchase life insurance and hospitalization cover for you and family member/s. You can insure up to 6 Family Members for both Life and Hospital Cover. Plus you get a cashback on your premiums paid.

What types of cover can I get? What types of cover can I get?

Family Cover By MoMo offers two insurance benefits, hospital cover and life cover
My Hospital: Hospital cover which pays out as a lump sum when a member is hospitalised for illness or accident. Minimum hospital stay is 1-night for accidental, and 2-nights for illness. Read more.
MyLife: Life cover which pays out as a lump sum if a covered member passes away. Read more.

Who can sign-up? Who can sign-up?

To enrol for Family Cover by MoMo as the Policyholder, you must be:
• Ugandan resident, between the ages of 18 and 65,
• an MTN customer with a MTN MoMo wallet

The person who buys and pays for the policy

What are the age limits for cover?? What are the age limits for cover??

As the Policyholder, you must be between the ages of 18 and 65 to enrol.
For MyFamily Cover the following rules apply:
• Your spouse should be between the ages of 18 and 65
• Any children added should be between the ages of 1 and 65

What are waiting periods? What are waiting periods?

The waiting Period for the
• Policyholder means a 1 (one) month period during which only claims due to an Accident will be paid.
• For Family Members added to the Policy, it means a 3 (three) month period during which only claims due to an Accident will be paid.

How do I cancel my policy? How do I cancel my policy?

If you want to cancel your policy, simply dial *165*7*3#, Login, then select Family Cover, in the main menu select “CANCEL POLICY”. Once your policy is cancelled you might still have remaining cover (for example you might have 2 months of prepaid cover left), you will still be able to claim with MoMo while you have cover. When your cover runs out you will no longer have protection, and no further payments will be requested.

Who is a Policyholder? Who is a Policyholder?

The Policyholder is the person who signed up for the MoMo policy (i.e. MyFamily Cover) and is the owner of the registered MTN Uganda mobile number.

Who is a Family Member? Who is a Family Member?

As part of the MyFamily Cover policy, Family Members can be added. You can register your Spouse and/or your Children to the policy. Only once persons have been successfully registered on the policy and premiums have been paid are they considered Family Members.

Who is allowed to be added as my spouse on MyFamily Cover? Who is allowed to be added as my spouse on MyFamily Cover?

Your Spouse is the person who you are married to. Your marriage must have been concluded in accordance with the applicable indigenous law as well as a union concluded between parties married in accordance with the doctrines of any recognised religion or tradition.

Who can be added as children on MyFamily Cover? Who can be added as children on MyFamily Cover?

As part of the MyFamily Cover policy, your Children must be one of the following:
• A biological child
• A legally adopted child
• A stepchild
• A child to whom the Policyholder is the legal guardian who is under the age of 21 years old
• Your Next of Kin is the person the Policyholder nominated to receive the insurance benefits of their MyLife (life cover).

What is a premium? What is a premium?

A premium is the cost of buying insurance for one (1) month. Depending on your billing, you might pay your premiums like this:
• Recurring billing: an automatic debit order comes off your MoMo account on the same day of each month.
• Pay in advance: you choose to make a payment for 6 to 12 months in advance.

Can somebody else pay my premiums? Can somebody else pay my premiums?

No, only the Policyholder can pay premiums.

What happens if I miss a payment? What happens if I miss a payment?

The policy will terminate if the Policyholder has not paid the Premium due. If a Premium is missed, the Policyholder will have 30 days to pay the Premium. If there is a valid claim during this time, MoMo will deduct the premium due from the claim amount. If the Policyholder fails to pay the Premium during this time, then the insurance cover will cease and any non-used MyBonus shall be forfeited.

CLAIMS

How do I make a claim? How do I make a claim?

To claim, simply dial *165*7*3#, select Family Cover, in the main menu select “Claim”. A link to upload your medical document will be displayed and sent to you via SMS. Or visit the nearest MTN Service Center to submit your medical documents. Alternatively, you can email them to insurance.ug@mtn.com Please write your Mobile number on the documents you are sending to us. We shall get back to you within 5 working days, Monday- Friday (8 am to 5 pm).

When should I claim?When should I claim?

Make sure to claim within 30 days of the insured event. Supporting documents must also be submitted within 90 days of the insured event.

How do I claim?How do I claim?

Our claims process works in four parts:
• You capture your information online on the make a claim page.
• We send you a SMS with instructions on how to submit your documents on WhatsApp or online.
• We process and verify your claim within 2-working days.
• You will be notified to the result and, if your claim was successful, you will receive payment to your MTM MoMo wallet immediately thereafter.

Your nominated Next of KIN or your nominated Caretaker can make a claim on behalf of the Policyholder. The Policyholder can make a claim for themself or for a Family Member.

Once you have submitted your claim documents, provided that everything is correct, you should receive payment within 2 working days.

What documents are needed for a hospital claim? What documents are needed for a hospital claim?

The documents required to make a MyHospital claim are as follows:
• ID of hospitalised person,
• and one of the following: a medical bill, or discharge letter showing date of admission and discharge

What documents are needed for a life claim? What documents are needed for a life claim?

The documents required to make a MyLife claim are as follows:
• ID of deceased. One of the following: a death certificate or medical certificate of cause of death

What are the reasons why a claim won’t be paid? What are the reasons why a claim won’t be paid?

Claims will not be paid under the following circumstances if:
• If any material information in any relevant document (such as the death certificate) is incorrect or incomplete, or if any other relevant material information is withheld
• If the Policyholder or Claimant commits fraud or attempts to commit fraud against MoMo when claiming benefits under the policy;
• If MTN is not notified within the minimum required time after the claim event occurred;
• If the claim was caused, directly or indirectly, by active participation in criminal activities, war, invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities, warlike operations (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, civil commotion assuming the proportions of or amounting to an uprising, military or usurped power;
• If the treatment in the Hospital did not comply with the procedures and clinical guidelines prescribed in the Uganda clinical Guidelines 2016 as published from time-to-time by the Republic of Uganda Ministry of Health Board, was not considered to be medically necessary or could have been provided at a lower level of medical care.
• If the Hospitalisation leading to the claim resulted from self-inflicted injury, abuse of alcohol or illegal narcotics, pregnancy or childbirth, mental and emotional conditions, and cosmetic and elective surgery or experimental surgery.
• suicide within the first 12 months
• Death or hospitalisation related to drug and alcohol abuse
• Active participation in dangerous sports and recreation activities such as horse riding, mountaineering, hunting, motor racing, power boat racing or fighting.

It’s a feature that enables customers to get 10% of premiums paid as a cash back after a period of 12 months of your policy being active and purchasing cover for at least 12 months’.
